I was encouraged recently to explore Boro Sashiko by friend and Art Gallery Curator Janice Whittle for a recent Exhibition. I began to do some research and developed quite a varied Pinterest Board It took me awhile to get into it but eventually I found my flow.
I not only used the Japanese style of stitching but I also incorporated african stitching, symbols and added some sculptural elements. The wood used in the piece has been harvested from my garden and comes from the Sea Island Cotton plant. It has been dried and wood burned and additional beading added.
I recently exhibited the wall hanging in an exhibition called Celebrating Textiles, and it brought together several other artists who created some beautiful work in textiles, I was honored to be among them. I have created a video of the opening, the work shown was truely beautiful. You can see the Video FOR CELEBRATING TEXTILES HERE
